Torkornoo’s removal is bad, no matter the constitutional changes a new govt will find ways to remove the new CJ – Analyst
A United Kingdom-based Ghanaian Governance Expert and observer, Michael Danquah, has said that the removal of the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, poses a challenge to future Chief Justices.

He makes the point that no matter the constitutional changes that will be made on the appointment of a Chief Justice, a new government will certainly find ways to remove the Chief Justice who will be appointed by the current government.

He agreed with assertions by former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo that the removal of Madam Torkornoo weakens the judiciary.
“Initially, when the Chief Justice was suspended, I called on her to file a suit to challenge that suspension. Now she has been removed from office, I think this is bad for democracy and weakens the judiciary. This is not what we all expected.
“Now there are talks about constitutional amendments regarding the appointment of a new Chief Justice, but trust me, constitutional amendments will not solve the problem; a new government will definitely find ways around to remove whoever is appointed Chief Justice. This is the danger I foresee, “Mr Danquah told 3news.com in an exclusive interview.
Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo also said earlier that the removal of Madam Gertrude Torkornoo as Chief Justice has weakened the judiciary.
Madam Sophia Akuffo raised concerns about the way and manner the issues were handled.
In her view, the hearing was handled as a treason trial.
